October 9: A Film About Lovers Who Never Should Have Been

Recommended: Alleluia
Another option: Antichrist

Alleluia was one of my favorite films from last year. This loose riff on the The Honeymoon Killers follows shy Gloria's new relationship with womanizer Michel. Initially we worry about Gloria's well being with a man who seems predatory. But we quickly learn that all isn't what it seems and that sometimes love is a curse, not a blessing.

Lars Von Trier's Antichrist is well known in horror circles, if for nothing more than its controversial depiction of sexual violence. It's a beautiful looking, if slightly baffling, film with strong performances by its leads. Double points for you if you can figure out exactly what it all means.

"Let's Watch..." is a movie watching challenge for the month of October by Overthinking Horror Films. Each day a new theme is posted, with a couple of film suggestions to get you started. So check in daily!
