October 28: A Film Starring Gene Wilder

Recommendation: Young Frankenstein
Another option: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Today's theme is in honor of Gene Wilder, whom we lost earlier this year. Young Frankenstein is a delightfully kooky film that turns the Frankenstein story on its head by making Wilder the grandson of the more famous scientist. In order to prove himself a genius, he decides to perfect a process that can reanimate the dead.

And let's face it, though it's not a traditional horror film, there are parts of Willy Wonka that are downright horrific when you think about it. Children disappearing one by one, the Oompa Loompas, that notorious tunnel scene...it's actually a pretty dark and disturbing film. A group of children win highly prized Golden Tickets, which gets them a personal tour of the factory of reclusive candy maker, Willy Wonka. If you haven't seen this, I have no words. It's a must!

"Let's Watch..." is a movie watching challenge for the month of October by Overthinking Horror Films. Each day a new theme is posted, with a couple of film suggestions to get you started. So check in daily!
