October 25: A Carnival/Circus Film
Recommendation: Santa Sangre
Another option: Carnival of Souls
Santa Sangre is directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, and if you're familiar with any of his other films, you're probably guessing that this one is a bit strange. You'd be right. To try and describe the plot of this one in any coherent way is difficult, but it basically boils down to the story of a man who carries out murders for his mother, who is missing her arms.
Carnival of Souls is a strange, dreamlike feature from 1962 about a woman who, after a massive car accident, moves to Utah to take on a job as an organist for one of the local churches. In town, she discovers an abandoned carnival, and is compelled to visit the site for reasons she doesn't understand.
