October 18: A Horror Film That Won an Oscar

Recommendation: Beetlejuice (Winner: Best Makeup, 1989)
Another Option: The Omen (Winner: Best Original Score, 1977)

Beetlejuice will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's just such a fun - bordering on ridiculous - film. Michael Keaton plays Beetlejuice, a "bio-exorcist" ghost trying to help another pair of ghosts fend off a family that's just moved into their (once) home.

And, is there anything creepier than the birthday scene of "The Omen?" Holy shit. I'll never forget the shock I experienced when I first saw that one. The Omen is about a couple that adopts a child, not knowing that he's actually the Antichrist. The film is everything you want in an "evil kid" horror film, and the entire cast turns out some great acting.
